The UK National Archives has recently (May 2010) made available details of the medals awarded to Merchant Seamen in WWI and it is possible now to access these online.
I have therefore added David's records. He was awarded the Mercantile Marine Ribbon and the British Medal Ribbon on 29th June 1919, which were issued to his Next of Kin and Widow, respectively.
